BAJA TRAVEL:  GETTING STARTED
You will enjoy your trip to Baja even more if you understand the cultural differences in Mexico. Here are some pointers to make your trip one of the best adventures of your life.

BAJA TOURIST VISA
Entry into Mexico requires a two step system involving obtaining the Tourist Visa and then separately paying the fee later on.  This system was introduced by  the Mexican government in July 1999.   The fees were designed to help Mexico enhance its travel destinations. Be sure all your documentation is in place so you won’t have any legal problems as you travel the peninsula.

Although you do not need a passport to get into Mexico, you will need one to get back into the U.S.

BAJA CULTURE
Remember that you are in a foreign country and so you should behave as politely as any guest would.  The people of Mexico are hard working and friendly but they also live differently in a much more relaxed way than most of us are used to in our hectic lives.

ADOPT A RELAXED ATTITUDE
After all, this is what you will encounter when dealing with the folks in Baja or almost anywhere in Mexico.  Be patient when  interacting with the locals and the services they provide. In Baja, manana is your mantra!

KIDS ISSUES
The people of Baja are warm and friendly, and they are very family oriented. Children will have fun and enjoy their Baja vacation but they do need to be mindful of good manners, as this is what is expected. No one appreciates unruly kids especially other tourists and while the local people love kids, they do place emphasis on showing respect. Kids traveling to Baja with only one parent must have a signed letter of permission from the parent who stayed home.

NO NEED TO BE ‘FLASHY’
Baja is a laid back tourist destination.  The people are friendly and enjoy a somewhat higher standard of living than those in other parts of Mexico.  But by our standards, the people of Baja are not well-heeled like the tourists they greet and serve in the many tourist destinations within Baja, So as the saying goes…’when in Rome, do as the Romans do’.  This really is your chance to leave the suits and gowns behind  and just kick back.
